These domain names can consist of personal or fictitious names, nicknames and/or other titles people are famous by. At the beginning, solely third-level registrations were permitted, so if you desired to secure john.doe.name, you would have to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration procedures were loosened and second-level registrations were also permitted. Already bought 3rd-level domain names remained active.
